It’s a fairly common occurrence I hear from my customers…
“The flowers I received from your business were so fresh and lasted over two weeks! What’s your secret!?”
To be honest, when I first heard that… I was a little shocked! But then I started hearing it not just from one client… but EVERY client of mine. That’s when I knew, I must be doing something RIGHT!
As a florist and small business owner that’s something so awesome to hear. Happy customers, beaming with compliments about the freshness and quality of your hard work!
That’s when I started laying out “The Country Girl Florals Formula for Flower Longevity”.
Wow, that’s a mouthful… The good news is, the system is simple. It just requires attention to detail, an eye for design, and a little bit of elbow grease.
The Country Girl Florals Formula for Flower Longevity
It all starts with inventory – making sure I have all upcoming orders accounted for and that I have all necessary materials from my supplier.
Waste not, want not – that’s florist 101.
I typically find myself watching the sunrise as I unpack all of my materials and cut the ends of each individual stem at 45 degree angle (yes, degrees matter in heat, engineering, and florals).
Next up, I make sure each cooler bucket is clean. You wouldn’t want to jump into a dirty swimming pool… your flowers feel the same way and will thank you for taking the time to keep things clean!
Oh, don’t forget to add in some food. I’m not at my best when I’m hangry… flowers share the sentiment!
Now that the containment vessels are ready, it’s time for the “kids to jump in the pool”.
This is where humans and flowers have a vastly different opinion. Flowers love their water crisp & brisk – anywhere between 33 and 42 degrees (I told you degrees matter!).
Once nestled in their cool beds, they can patiently wait for up to a week to be called on to bring a smile and flutter to a loved one’s heart.
So, it’s not some big secret – rather taking the time to focus on the small details that lead to amazing results. Clean, cool, and temperature control are the keys to keeping flowers fresh and beautiful for several days and will make your arrangements last longer than ever!
